Product Use: Laurel Lake Overnight French Toast
When I've got a half loaf of bread, it's a question of do we make french toast or freeze it? My favorite bread to make french toast with is our Maple Oat Loaf.
This is my favorite way to use a half loaf up and one the whole family loves. This is a recipe I’ve been working on for years to recreate a French toast from an inn my sister worked at on Laurel Lake. To the early 2000s Inn chef, this one’s for you.
Using half a maple oat loaf, cut into 1” cubes and set aside. Grease a baking dish. In a separate bowl combine:
5 large eggs, scrambled
1/2 a med orange zested and juiced
1/4 cup milk or heavy cream (dairy or dairy free)
1/8 tsp ginger
1/8 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 tbsp vanilla extract (we love Mexican Vanilla)
Once well combined dump the cubed bread into the liquid mixture until well coated. Add to the greased baking dish. Cover and let sit overnight in the fridge.
Preheat oven to 375*, remove the baking dish from the fridge and let sit on the counter while the oven preheats. Uncover dish and sprinkle with turbano sugar sprinkled before adding to the oven to cook for 25 mins, uncovered, bake until golden.
